SUMMER VACATION IS COMING – BUT NOT UNTIL FRIDAY

Fort Worth, Texas – Every year at this time Fort Worth ISD students, teachers and parents become anxious about the end of school and the start of summer vacations. Of course, the reasons differ for each group and that gives way to rumors and incorrect information as to when school really ends.

The last day of school for the Fort Worth Independent School District is Friday, June 5, 2009. It will be a full school day with classes ending at the regularly scheduled times.

“Every day of school is important and instruction will continue until the last minute,” said Dr. Patricia Linares, deputy superintendent for School Leadership. “Dismissal will occur at the regularly scheduled times.”

School districts in Texas are required to be in session for a minimum of 180 instructional days. When the Texas Legislature instituted the uniform start date two years ago it required public schools to not begin fall sessions until on or after the fourth Monday in August. There are, of course, exceptions made for year-round schools.  The FWISD school calendar complies with those requirements.
