Theophlous Aron Sims, Sr., is a registered pharmacist and president of Sims Enterprises. Born in Jefferson, Texas, Dr. Sims spent his childhood in Sherman and has been a resident of Fort Worth for many years.

Dr. Sims graduated from Texas Southern University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  In 1984, he received his Doctor of Pharmacy Certification from the National Association of Retail Druggists.

 

Dr. Sims is happy to have been of service to the students and employees of the FWISD for 29 years.  He continues his efforts as a community servant by helping his neighbors build a better Fort Worth.  He has served his family, and he has served God.  He is proudest of the FWISD Scholar Athlete Award program which he originated. 

 

Dr. Sims has received numerous awards.  Among them are FW Black Achievers, Quest for Success, Personalities of the South Award, Maroon & Grey Club Service Award, Eminent Man Outstanding Leadership Award, and many more.

 

T. A. Sims Elementary was named in his honor in 1989. Dr. Sims is married to Nancy W. Sims, also a registered pharmacist. They have three adult children.

Accomplishments of the Board of Education

  • Conducted a nationwide search for a new superintendent of schools resulting in the hiring of Melody A. Johnson
  • Balanced District budget through reductions of $50 million over the last four years with $3 million cut from the central office alone
  • Charged the District’s administrators with improving student achievement
  • Developed and adopted Procedures and Standards of Practice for the Board resulting in a cohesive and committed team
  • Established and utilized community advisory committees in the areas of technology, facilities, budget and audit functions
  • Adopted policies that ensure transparency of operations
  • Reinstated music and art into the curriculum for primary grades
  • Developed the first strategic performance plan with high standards and accountability measures
  • Defined staff responsibilities and accountability more clearly and implemented efficient and ethical business practices

 

Recent Student/School Accomplishments:

  • Clifford Davis Elementary School's Rhonda McGuire was honored as the 2013 Outreach Communications Chair for Teaching Excellence in Elementary Reading.
  • The JPMorgan Chase Foundation awards a $75,000 grant to underwrite math and literacy nights at I.M. Terrell Elementary School.
  • The Fort Worth After School program at O.D. Wyatt High School was awarded grants from the Afterschool Centers on Education and Texas Education Agency.
  • Morningside Elementary School hosted a community Health Fair and Jingle Bell Jog on Saturday, December 15, 2012.
  • The Morningside Children's Partnership was established to bring together corporate, non-profit, public and faith-based organizations to positively impact the academic outcomes of O.D. Wyatt High School, Morningside Middle School, Morningside Elementary School, Edward J. Briscoe Elementary School and Carroll Peak Elementary School.
  • Morningside Middle School student Lesley Ortiz competed in the National Spanish Spelling Bee in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Van Zandt-Guinn Elementary School's community partner Broadway Baptist Church treated students to a special holiday store filled with more than 1,800 donated new gifts on December 13-14, 2012.
  • The Fort Worth ISD and Tarrant NET kicked off the Read 2 Win campaign, a community collaboration that pairs community volunteers with first-grade students who are learning to read, at David K. Sellars Elementary School on October 11, 2012.
